Antiveduto Gramatica (1569 - 1626) was an Italian proto-baroque painter, active in Rome. Raised in Rome, he also developed his career as a painter there. He was an apprentice of the Perugian artist Giovanni Domenico Angelini (Giandomenico Perugino). Gramatica was famous for his portraits, like the one we present here. This Veronica, the woman depicted in the painting, seems to hide the features of a gentlewoman. It is depicted frontally and built with the usual monumental style used by Gramatica in his works.
