Antonio Mondino (information from approximately 1610 to approximately 1626) was an Italian artist active from 1617 to 1633. The painting, a typical example of the production of sacred subjects used for private devotion, was recently discovered after becoming part of a English private collection. The painting depicts a famous episode in the life of Catherine of Alexandria: the "mystical wedding" with Christ. A recent cleaning operation has allowed us to once again enjoy the quality of the work and establish the integrity of the original pictorial layer. The painting has been dated around 1620 and presents the typical signs of the style of Pier Francesco Mazzuchelli (1573 - 1626). Pier Francesco Mazzuchelli, known as "il Morazzone", had Antonio Mondino among his numerous followers.
