Giovanni Domenico Gambone (1720 - 1793)
Pair of Capricci
Oil on canvas, cm. 85 x 112
Expertise by Professor Giancarlo Sestrieri
This pair of paintings by Giovanni Domenico Gambone (1720 - 1793) depicts an architectural capriccio with archaeological ruins and people interacting with each other. In one of the two works you can easily see a man on horseback talking to two guards or soldiers who are resting on the steps of a ruined temple, while a woman carrying a tray with two glasses approaches. The two works belong to two pictorial genres: landscape painting and capriccio. A landscape with a lake or river surrounded by hills provides the backdrop for ruined temples, such as an obelisk and a 16th-century palace that can be seen in one of the two paintings.
The price is for the pair of paintings.
