The scene presented here is that of a festive bacchanal in which a large satyr intent on eating grapes is lying on the ground surrounded by a large group of putti who fill and populate the pictorial composition with festoons and vine leaves. The cold tones of the cerulean of the sky combined with the reddish pigments of the complexions recall the mythological compositions of Poussin which our master looks at with attentive admiration, citing his style and reinterpreting it in a more mature and late taste typical of the 18th century.
