The present painting fits well into the Dutch pictorial production of the golden century. The composition played on the harmonious presentation of rich game and fine details such as the hard stone handles of the neatly placed cutlery recall the contemporary productions of Jan Davidsz. De Heem (1606 – 1684), as well as the architectural organization of the scene which is freely inspired by the models of Gerrit Dou (1613 - 1675).
