On the mountain of Golgotha, in a tormented setting, the Gospel story of the Crucifixion of Jesus takes place. The scene, crossed by a crowd of bystanders, is tinged with dramatic tones and the figures, characterized by very singular features, exude pathos and excitement. The work in question has been attributed by critics to the hand of Scipione Compagno, a precious artist working in Naples in the 17th century.
